Mr Barilaro said he would be pushing for areas that have had no COVID-19 cases during the Delta outbreak - and no cases throughout the whole pandemic, in some cases - to leave lockdown on Saturday.

The regional NSW lockdown is currently slated to end on September 10, however it is expected a number of regions will have this extended.

"The line that I've used is that you can't suppress what doesn't exist, and therefore it's unfair on those communities to keep a level of restriction," Mr Barilaro said.

He said there may be an "opportunity" for broad regional expanses with no cases, that cover tens of thousands of kilometres, to leave lockdown.

"That's my hope, but I've [got] to get the support of [NSW] Health to agree with that," Mr Barilaro said.

"I would say north of the state and probably [the] Riverina region down the bottom of the state are the two areas that clearly stand out."

He previously said a decision around the lockdown will be made on Wednesday, and shared with the public on Thursday.

The deputy premier added it is unlikely that regions lifted from lockdown would return to pre-lockdown conditions, with some restrictions still in place.

"There will still be some level of restrictions to make sure that we somehow balance the need to reopen and the balance of protecting people and regions," he said.

Mr Barilaro also said that work is ongoing to include people's vaccination status on Service NSW when they sign-in to venues using a QR code.

A version has already been developed, but will need further work - particularly around the application having to access Medicare data.

Mr Barilaro said further categories would need to be developed to include those with medical exemptions and people under 16.

The goal is to trial the service in a few local government areas in the weeks leading up to the 70 per cent vaccination milestone.
