Mrs Stevens was the librarian at Leeton's TAFE campus and had retired before receiving a call for help from Leeton Shire Council to run the town library for five weeks.
"I thought I would give it a go, I probably did six weeks acting in the role and, in that time, they (council) were advertising for the position.
"I was encouraged to apply and I thought 'why not?', so here I am."
Prior to working at the Leeton library and leading the team there, Mrs Stevens had never worked at a public library before.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Before her position at TAFE, some of her other roles included working in libraries for big firms and businesses in Sydney.
Mrs Stevens was also a piano teacher in Leeton shire for 17 years.
Her role at the library is not just about leadership and managing the team there, but also promoting the facility to the community, fostering partnerships and relationships and much more.
"I'm so lucky to have such a great team here ... they have amazing skills and interests in a broad range of areas," Mrs Stevens said.
"The library here in Leeton is much more than just books and programs for children.
"We have amazing digital and online services for the community.
"We want to engage the people of the shire. We have to find ways to easily connect our community with all of the wonderful resources we have these days."
So many of these tools and resources are all available with use of the humble and free library card, which Mrs Stevens would like to encourage residents to sign up for.
"We need to be finding a way to connect with our adults in the community ... a library is so much more than a building, it's the people," Mrs Stevens said.
"Every week there's been something new I am learning, certainly on a management level.
"But it's the staff, they are wonderful. We're looking forward to having the community back at the library too."
