The Greens had been gunning for premierships across several grades, including in first grade and league tag.
However, the most recent lockdown poured cold water over the finals series, followed by the news community sport would not be able to return until the state reached the 80 per cent double vaccination rate - likely in mid-November.
With the Greens having been at the top of their game all season, first grade coach Hayden Philp said it was a disappointing way for the year to come to a close.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"It is pretty disappointing for everyone, but that's just life and how it is," he said.
"Obviously we would have wanted to play finals and have a crack at the premiership because we think we were in with a pretty good chance after how we played all season.
"After all the hard work everyone put in and the good pre-season we had, we would have liked to finish it off, but that's just the way it is at the moment."
In good news for the Greens, Philp confirmed he would be staying on as the senior coach next year.
"I'll have another year of coaching ... we'll probably get started again with pre-season in a couple of months time depending what the restrictions are," he said.
"I've spoken to the majority of the boys and I think all of them are planning to stick around.
"There's a good attitude towards next season, so if we can build on that in the pre-season again hopefully we're well-placed."
Philp said the club as a whole was hoping to get together in the coming weeks to hold some sort of presentation event to acknowledge the hard work and efforts of all of the sides and players in the 2021 season.
"Hopefully we can get everyone together soon," he said.
