The search for the 2021 Leeton Showgirl will go on even though a show isn't being held in town this year.
The showgirl competition is still happening throughout NSW where possible ahead of the state final at Easter in Sydney.
With lockdown in Leeton shire now over, unless cases of COVID-19 arise, this means the organisers of the Leeton Showgirl competition can start making plans for an event and judging to go ahead.
"We can still have an event, of course in line with restrictions, where we have entrants together for an evening," co-ordinator Liz Munn said.
With October 9 now being worked on for an in-person event, Miss Munn and fellow co-ordinators such as Jemma Leeson, are hoping to make it all feel less formal to allow entrants to feel comfortable and give them more room to enjoy the process.
Already there have been several young women put their hand up, with Miss Leeson wanting them, future entrants and the community to know that the competition is a fun one and it isn't based on criteria such as looks and beauty.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"The competition has come a long way, it's more about representing your town and having a passion for your local community," Miss Leeson said.
Once a winner of the competition is crowned at a local level they then go on to represent their town at the zone competition.
Successful entrants there then make their way to the state final at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
Miss Leeson was actually the last resident to hold the title for Leeton after the event didn't go ahead in 2020 amid the pandemic.
"We wanted to make sure to keep the interest out there and still have something this year ... it's an important tradition," Miss Leeson said.
"We want to make it fun and something people want to be involved in."

The October 9 event for the Showgirl competition falls when the Leeton Show would have been held this year.
