WITH lockdown again encouraging more Leeton shire residents to either pick up a good book or listen to one on their personal device, there's no better time to rediscover the power of words.

Lockdown may be over, but books and stories are a part of our life everyday.
With this in mind, The Irrigator caught up with four staff members from the Leeton library to see what they are currently reading or book they are listening to as part of Borrow Box.
The free program where e-books and audio books can can be downloaded - all you need is a library card.

I'VE always got a few titles on the go, but I got so excited about Scrublands by (journalist/author) Chris Hammer, that it's become my go to right now.
Crime thrillers are not a go to genre for me, but as I regularly tell library patrons, it's good to challenge your reading comfort zone.
IN OTHER NEWS:
I do however heavily read Australian fiction because I just adore the descriptive language.
I find it hard to concentrate in silence, so I'll listen to the audiobook while I'm working. The eBook is also all for me though.

A book that has made a large impression on me and that I want to read again is called Klara and The Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro.
Klara is an android or artificial friend, so it's set in the future. In this future family's buy their children an artificial friend who is powered by the sun.
These androids are intuitive but they see the world different.
The thing about the book I really loved was the relationship between Klara and Josie her friend and the observation of family.
The overriding theme is love. It was just an amazing book.

I'm currently listening on Borrow Box to The Things We Keep by Sally Hepworth.
It's about a young women who has been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's and has just moved into a residential home where there is only one other young person around her age there.
There's another story intertwined in it as well, I'm up to chapter five so I can't wait to see what happens.
I've only just started getting into audiobooks but I love them. You can listen to them wherever you are.

I always have a talking book on the go with Borrow Box and at the moment I am revisiting Where the Crawdads Sing.
This is such a fantastic book and it's just so descriptive. I've also just had a binge on Jane Austen too.
Another book I am reading right now is Come Back to Afghanistan by Said Hyder Akbar.
It's a true story and it's fascinating, so many of the names in the book are the ones we are seeing in the news today.
Hyder interweaves his personal journey in the book - that of a teenager struggling to find his identity in his parents' homeland.
