The Greens went through the home and away season without dropping a game and were eagerly awaiting their chance to make a run for the premiership.
However, lockdown was soon enforced just as the first round of finals was played.
While regions have now emerged from that lockdown, community sporting competitions remain off the table until at least mid-November.
With so long between the first round of finals and November being the earliest possible start date, Rugby League NSW and Group 20 had no choice but to cancel the 2021 season.
It wasn't the way the Greens wanted the year to end, according to coach Dan Watt.
"Disappointing is definitely the word ... the girls put in a lot of hard work and effort all year," he said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"At the end of the day it is what it is, but that doesn't mean as a team the girls aren't disappointed they didn't get a chance to go through to that grand final and possibly win.
"Hopefully we have most of the team stay together next year and maybe some new faces too."
Watt was assisted in the coaching role this season by Jody Rudd.
He said he was unsure whether or not he would be at the helm in 2022, but it was something he would consider.
"If the club asked and wanted me to have another go, I probably would," Watt said.
"You never know. It's been a learning experience for me too.
"Luckily I had such a good side who were willing to put in that effort and they were just a really good bunch of girls."
With so much left behind in 2021, there's no doubting the Leeton Greens league tag side will be fighting to be back better than ever in season 2022.
