In keeping with the public health order, which is effective from Monday, only double vaccinated adult residents (16 years and over) can enter the Leeton Visitor Information Centre, the Leeton library, the Leeton Museum and Art Gallery, the Leeton Early Learning Centre, Leeton Out of School Centre and the Leeton Indoor Stadium.

Although not yet open, this restriction will also apply to the Leeton Regional Aquatic Centre, the Whitton pool and Whitton Museum when they do open.

The usual Service NSW QR code check in and check out processes will continue to apply, as will social distancing and mask-wearing indoors.

In case it is requested, residents should carry proof of vaccination, being a COVID digital certificate from MyGov, or certification from the place of vaccination, or from the Australian Immunisation Register.

With health regulations changing, council said it would amend its policies accordingly, including from December 1 when it is likely these rules will ease.

Council general manager Jackie Kruger was hopeful the community would be understanding of the new, temporary rules imposed by the NSW government.

"We appreciate these regulations may inconvenience some residents but, on the bright side, the government is hoping double vaxxed vaccination rates will be over 80 per cent within six weeks so some of these rules can be relaxed in early December and we can get back to a greater level of normal," she said.

Leeton is currently sitting at about 80 per cent single vaxxed and 50 per cent double vaxxed.

Mayor Paul Maytom said he "strongly encouraged" Leeton residents to do their share to help NSW reach its vaccine targets

"Just because we've been free of COVID so far, it doesn't mean that we are going to be free of it forever, he said.

"Please consider getting vaccinated as soon as possible to minimize the potential impacts of COVID-19 on you, your family, local Leeton health services and our community".

Residents can book vaccinations at a local GP, visit a pharmacy, or drop in at the Leeton Stadium between 10am and 3pm this Tuesday where a free vaccine clinic is taking place.

The clinic is being co-ordinated by the Murrumbidgee Local Health District.
