AFTER an extended delay amid pandemic restrictions, Parkview Public School's kindergarten transition program has finally kicked off.
Students preparing for their first year of "big school" in 2022 had their first session as part of the program last week, which will continue throughout term four.
The initiative had been due to start on August 18.
Kindergarten transition is a significant milestone for children and their families, with Parkview Public kindergarten Teacher Lauren Brett pleased with how children settled in their first visit to the school.
"The first day of transition was fantastic," she said.
"The children really embraced their new environment and responded well to new routines and experiences.
"It was great to see the positive interaction between the children."
Principal Travis Irvin was relieved the program could finally get under way.
"For second year in a row we have had to abbreviate our program because of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic," he said.
"It is so important that children are able to immerse themselves in their learning environment prior to commencing school, so it is pleasing that we have been able to commence the program.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"The establishment of positive relationships with their new peers and educators it vital to a smooth transition to school, while the kids becoming familiar with their new environment and engaging in carefully targeted learning experience linked to the Early Years Learning Framework is also incredibly valuable."
Registrations are still available for the program, which also features a complimentary bus service that picks up and drops off children from homes and preschools across the Leeton area.
Kindergarten transition continues 11.30am to 1.45pm at Parkview Public every Wednesday until December 1.
