The Australian Army Cadets (AAC) program provides participants an opportunity to 'experience things you don't do in everyday life' and runs as a community based youth development organisation grounded in the customs, traditions and values of the Australian army.
According to AAC, cadets learn 'leadership, team building and survival skills' that set them up for life.
Officer in Charge of the 223 AAC Leeton Tracey Bullivant said the instructors were at the core of the AAC program, guiding and mentoring the youth involved.
"Instructing our local cadets is a great way to give back to the local community," Officer Bullivant said.
After enrolling both her boys, now 20 and 22, through the program and volunteering as a parent, Officer Bullivant stepped up to a leadership position where she says she 'hasn't looked back'.
"If you want to jump on board it is very worthwhile teaching cadets a range of skills and providing them a range of exciting opportunities and experiences," Officer Bullivant said.

Just recently the Leeton AAC squadron were able to experience what it was like to fly in a Boeing C-17 Globemaster III, a large military transport aircraft that is commonly used to perform tactical and strategic aircraft missions globally.
"We have so many unique activities on offer for the kids of the community," Officer Bullivant said.
"If you want to jump on board and mentor the youth of Leeton this is the position for you."
It is desirable that applicants have some military experience either regular or in reserve forces, be interested in training, and development of unit training programs, be proactive in introducing new activities and ideas and most importantly be a community minded person.
