The Murrumbidgee side started the competition with a loss at home to Cricket Albury Wodonga in round one before their second-round match against Southern Riverina was washed out last weekend.

The Northern Riverina side were able to make a decent start after winning the toss and electing to bat with a 36-run opening stand before Billy Evans took two quick wickets.

The home side was able to keep the runs ticking over before Christian Callcut (1/22), and Cooper Rand (1/62) made the breakthroughs.

The middle order of the Northern Riverina side stood strong with Shaun Smith (60) Lachlan Higman (33), and Caleb Walker (85*) got their side into a strong position.

Meli Ranitu (1/21), Sam Williamson (1/32) and Evans (3/52) picked up some late wickets, and along with a couple of run outs, Northern Riverina finished their 50 overs on 9/293.

If the Murrumbidgee side were to chase down the total, they were going to make a strong start at the top of the order.

Rand and Shaun Culgan were able to make the start they were looking for with a 48-run opening stand before Culgan (18) was caught.

Jensen Hargreaves (6) followed closely behind, but Rand and Jack Headon were able to continue the good work of the Murrumbidgee batters.

Headen (22) was stumped with the score on 96, which brought Murrumbidgee captain Ben Fattore to the crease.

Along with Rand, the fourth wicket pairing was able to 64 runs, and Rand (55) was able to post a half-century before falling to a caught and bowled.

Fattore (44) followed closely behind and started a stumble for the Murrumbidgee side, who lost 5/6 to put a nail in the coffin of their run chase.

Thomas Mclellan (11) added some late runs, but it wasn't enough as the visitors were bowled out for 202 in the 49th over.

Members of both sides will hope they are selected for the Bradman Cup early next year to represent the Riverina.
