Along with internally, the company has been pushing for safety in the community as well. Just recently, MI released an animated video urging safety around channels as the weather heats up.
Projects like the video are why Murrumbidgee Irrigation was singled out as a leader of safety in the community and professional space.
CEO Brett Jones thanked the MI team for their hard work in ensuring safety remains a priority in both work and the wider culture.
"This acknowledgement by our industry peers is testament to all the hard work the entire MI team has done over the past year and beyond," he said.
"I would also like to congratulate the joint winners of the overall award for excellence in WHS, Water NSW and Murrumbidgee Local Health District, for their efforts in the safety space."
He explained why he thought Murrumbidgee Irrigation had emerged as a safety leader, and the philosophy behind it.
"Our key philosophy is our safety leaders work for the entire MI Team to assist in keeping them safe and an essential part of that responsibility is being the reminding officer," he explained.
"Our programs and policies are focused on supporting employees to be the best that they can be, and this includes ensuring their safety, health, and wellbeing."
