Thunder and lightening were a regular feature throughout the day, with heavy showers coming day throughout the 24-hour period.

This was followed by more storm rumblings early on Friday morning, with another heavy downpour.

Several roads in Leeton were under water due to flash flooding, including in Wattle Hill, with a powerline wire also reported to be down and near the road on Vance Estate.

Leeton's Jeremy Bradshaw, who is the local controller for the town's SES and the local Commander for the MIA region, said it had been a busy couple of days, with little sleep for volunteers.

"Off the top of my head we had about seven jobs in Leeton, mostly for leaking roofs and issues like that," he said.

"The Leeton SES has been helping out covering areas like Griffith, Narrandera, Hillston ... we're covering a far area so we're a bit stretched, but we're here to help.

"Griffith was one of the hardest hit. They had a lot of flash flooding and hail.

"We (Leeton) definitely got the rain. It was pretty heavy."

Mr Bradshaw said the focus on Friday would be to get to the calls volunteers had been unable to make it to the day before.

"We've still got some jobs to get to from last night (Thursday) and others that come in today," he said.

"There's still meant to be some storm activity around today, so we will see how that pans out."

Mr Bradshaw said these types of weather systems reinforced the importance of the SES in the community.

He said new volunteers were always welcome to register their interest and find out more about what is involved.
