A ‘Welcome’ sign placed along Irrigation Way just south of town facing traffic entering Leeton has again been vandalized.
The sign was intended to offer an open ended greeting to those entering town and elaborate that Leeton welcomes ‘New Settlers, Migrants & Refugees’.
Leeton has several groups that work tirelessly with immigrants to ensure that Leeton is a comfortable place for people to take their first steps towards a new life in Australia.
There is also a strong push to show Leeton to businesses and citysiders looking to relocate to the country.
The vandalism of a ‘Welcome’ sign for a dislike of the country’s immigration policy might have a different impact on those looking to relocate from the suburbs.
The act itself appears to show that a growing backlash against immigration worldwide is again being expressed in Leeton.
The sign had previously been valdalized prior to the Easter Weekend and it opened the door to an ugly discussion on social media.
