Bike Week is fast approaching and that means an array of fun and activities are being planned to mark the occasion in Leeton.
Leeton Shire Council is in the midst of doing just that, with September 16 set down as the date for residents to get their wheels out and enjoy a day of festivities.
This year’s event will be held at the bike training facility, which is located near the Leeton Skate Park.
Bike Week is an annual event and this year it runs from September 16 to September 24.
Every year it celebrates and encourages bicycling for health and everyday transportation.
Council has received funding from Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) to promote the “Get on your Bike Leeton” event as part of the initiative.
Council road safety officer Kym Snow said the event was open to residents of all ages.
“All community members are encourage to bring their bike to the bike training facility in Palm Avenue where they can participate in rides on our shared bike paths,” she said.
“Maps of the bike paths will be provided for anyone wishing to ride or walk.
“There will be children’s activities, free bike maintenance checks, a guessing competition, face painting, an activity centre with colouring in and bike safety information.
“Anyone who registers will receive a free bike safety sample bag.”
Anyone planning to participate is required to register on the day.
