Whitty competed in the Toyota 86 racing series at Bathurst’s Mount Panorama over four days before the V8 Supercars took to the track.
Out of 38 competitors he finished 15th.
It was the fourth race of the Toyota 86 series and the first time for Whitty taking part at Bathurst and off p-plates.
“You have to race on p-plates for your first three races,” Whitty said.
“For me it was a dream come true to be racing at Bathurst.
“It was amazing.
“I was really happy with where I finished as well.”
Whitty and his father Garry are at the head of the racing venture, with both enjoying the experience at Mount Panorama.
This year the Toyota 86 series features five events with the final one coming up at Newcastle.
Whitty said the thrill of racing at Bathurst over the same weekend as the V8 Supercars was an experience that would stay with him for life.
“It’s a big enough challenge tackling the mountain when you’re going the 60kmh speed limit, but at 200kmh it’s something even different,” he said.
“You’ve got the walls, the speed and handling the car.
“It was an amazing feeling and you have to concentrate very hard.”
The Bathurst 1000 for the V8 Supercars was played out in wet conditions, but Whitty was able to get his racing out of the road before the rain started to fall.
“We finished our last race just before the rain started on Sunday,” he said.
“We raced over Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.”
The father-son operation is one of the smaller teams taking part in the series, with Whitty also one of the younger competitors.
“I’ve only just come out of go-karting.” Whitty said.
“It’s a whole new experience but I love it.
“My dad and I are a good team, I’m lucky to have his support.
“I definitely want to keep going with it next year, but I probably need some more backing and sponsors to be able to do that.
“I really love racing and just cars in general.”
