Jennifer Gatenby, from the Australian National University in Canberra, was selected to take part in this year's Bush Bursary program in Leeton.
During the past two weeks she has experienced many facets of the medical world in Leeton, including spending time at the town's aged care facilities, medical centres, Leeton Community Health, Leeton Physiotherapy and Insight Radiology.
Mrs Gatenby took time out on Tuesday to be given a tour of Leeton shire and visited the cotton gin at Whitton, a rice farm and more.
"It's been really good to have a look at all the different aspects here," she said.
"I'd definitely like to be able to practice in the country when I'm done.
"Coming here, I've been able to see the process the whole way through I guess you could say."
Mrs Gatenby isn't new to the country life as she grew up on a property near Temora, where she also went to school.
She said Leeton's doctors and practitioners had been more than helpful during her time in town.
"It's been really worthwhile," Mrs Gatenby said.
"Everyone has been so nice and given me a lot of their time.
"Programs like this are very helpful ... you are given a lot of insight into what practicing in the country would be like."
Mrs Gatenby has completed other practical components as part of her course and will continue to do so in the remaining two years of her course.
