In 2010, the Land and Property Information (LPI) undertook a "cleaning up" of smaller locations across the state, which in its books meant dissolving Wamoon into Leeton.
In 2011, Leeton Shire Council updated its own maps to include the LPI's information, but it is only now some residents have started to notice Wamoon is "missing".
In land figures released recently, one Wamoon street was classified as being in Leeton, while one councillor, who lives in Wamoon, has tried updating personal details online but Wamoon wasn't an available option.
Council director corporate services Duncan McWhirter said under the LPI, Wamoon was never gazetted as an area.
"It was sort of just an alias," he said.
"However, that being said they do recognise Wamoon as a village ... it can be confusing."
At a council meeting on March 27, councillor Peter Davidson again raised the issue.
"We certainly can't just let this happen," he said.
"Wamoon is definitely there ... we know it's there, so it should be recognised as that."
Mr McWhirter said council was working with the LPI to find a solution to the problem.
"We've spoken to the LPI to have Wamoon recognised as a suburb," he said.
"That's how this all started, when it had that 'status' taken away.
"They don't believe it comes under their guidelines because the area isn't big enough.
"Again, it does raise some tricky questions ... they might say the way you can do that is to redraw the boundary in order to have Wamoon as a suburb, but that could mean parts of Leeton that had always been Leeton might then be Wamoon.
"We're looking into it to see how we can negotiate it all."
