Griffith City Council is keen to move the terminal away from the city centre, with the proposed site for the new Western Riverina Intermodal Freight Terminal (WRIFT) being at Wumbulgal, which, by a stone's throw, is in Leeton shire.
A funding application for the project was recently rejected, with some Griffith councillors also concerned about the location.
Leeton Shire Council hasn't received any form of development application for the area, with manager of economic development, tourism and events Peter Kennedy meeting with several stakeholders last week when sessions were held with Patrick Terminals and Logistics (Patrick) and Australian Grain Link.
"What has come from that is that at the moment there is quite literally no movement on the matter," Mr Kennedy said.
"At the information session it was made known that more funding will be applied for.
"However, until something like that is approved they are unable to do anything regarding construction or even submitting development applications."
Griffith City Council had applied for financial assistance from the Regional Development Australia Fund to upgrade Stock Route Road between Burley Griffin Way and Main Road 80, as well as construction of a loop road.
The proposed location for the rail transport hub is on the eastern side of Main Road 80/Irrigation Way, just south of the second rail crossing between Leeton and Griffith.
Mr Kennedy said he was keeping the relevant businesses in Leeton up-to-date on the matter.
"Those that need to know what's happening are being kept in the loop," he said.
"Griffith council has also been very good in keeping us in the know as well."
