The upgrade to the theatre is thanks to a grant from the Arts Funding Program, which was announced late last year.
Once completed, the theatre will have new auditorium and stage lighting, a new movie screen, and new stage curtains and trusses.
Roxy Theatre manager Melissa Stafford said the work would bring more life to the building.
"It will be better for travelling theatres when they come here," she said.
"Local productions will be able to use the up-to-date equipment.
"With the new screen, there will be a brighter and clearer picture."
The work is being undertaken by Factory Sound, as well as contractors from Melbourne.
The new screen is set to arrive and be installed this week.
An application for the funding was put together by Leeton Shire Council manager library and cultural services Lyn Middleton.
In the application she said the work was much-needed.
"An upgrade would be used to further enhance the current facilities already available at the theatre and widen our appeal to local and touring performers," Mrs Middleton said.
"An improved Roxy will greatly increase the creative capacity of the region, allowing more art to come to the area and to be produced locally."
