A mix of 200 residents and visitors got acquainted with the town pioneers and business people including Mr OG Washington, Washington Family Furniture owner, and Mr JG Youll, the first editor of newspaper The Irrigation Record, with the help of detailed information boards that were set up.
Leeton Family and Local History Society president Wendy Senti said the boards were a huge hit with visitors, many relating them back to their own history with the town.
"A Sydney woman found her school picture from 1934," Mrs Senti said, adding the boards went back as far as 1912 and '13.
"Her and her son were so shocked, but that is the thing about Leeton, a lot of people manage to come back home again."
Mrs Senti said about a lot of people were "gobsmacked" over the old school magazines and old photos that were displayed in albums.
As well as people, the display celebrated places in Leeton with a rich history, including the Showgrounds which has been utilised by travelling shows."
The display also included scale models of historic buildings.
"We had models of historic Leeton buildings as part of the display," Mrs Senti said.
"We also made connections between the Country Women's Association and the old cannery and the CWA's fight to save it."
Mrs Senti said the boards took about two weeks to put together with much of the research being done on Trove a database of the National Library of Australia.
