The Leeton Local Health Advisory Committee (LHAC) has been created to be a link between the Murrumbidgee Local Health District and residents.
The organisation is a platform for the community to raise concerns and provide support.
Hospital staff, community members, Leeton hospital health services manager Greg Brennan and Leeton Shire Council mayor Paul Maytom are among those on the committee.
Committee chairman Kate Alexander said it was important to form a conduit between health services and the community.
"We meet once a month and it's been very productive so far," she said.
"One of the things we have been looking at is the hospital signage and how that could be improved.
"We're only a new committee, but there are some big ideas."
Other LHAC committees are being established throughout the region, with more community members being encouraged to join up.
The LHAC doesn't handle financial matters to do with the hospital, but it can look at performance issues should they be raised as a concern.
Mrs Alexander said being part of the committee would enable residents to have a say on issues important to the community.
"We would definitely encourage more people to think about being part of the committee," Mrs Alexander said.
"I think we've got some very interesting times ahead of us and it is an important role to play."
