Ms Burgess was recently presented with the Excellence in Nursing - Registered Nurse award at the inaugural Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) Nursing and Midwifery Awards.
As part of the award, Ms Burgess was recognised for her achievements and commitment to continuous care improvement for the unit's 38 residents.
"It was a lovely surprise ... I don't know who nominated me," Ms Burgess said.
"I think it's great not only for me, but for our staff because they all work hard too.
"Probably one of the reasons I was nominated is because I have a big focus on being 'person-centred'.
"I believe every resident here is special and should be given the attention they need each day."
MLHD director nursing and midwifery Karen Cairney said Ms Burgess provided a professional approach to her job each day.
"Under Rebecca's management a number of projects have been completed, most notably a new outdoor garden area that is welcoming and provides a safe and peaceful environment for residents to enjoy the outdoors," Ms Cairney said.
"Rebecca's achievements and commitment have resulted in not only improved care delivery to residents, but also improved staff morale by providing a more positive and compassionate environment."
Ms Burgess was also commended by the Aged Care Accreditation Agency for her quality improvements and safety strategies during its surveys and unannounced visits.
The winners of the MLHD awards are nominated for the NSW Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards, to be announced in Sydney on September 11.
