THREE Leeton shire organisations were announced as the beneficiaries of this year's Water Wheel Garden Club open day.

The Leeton branch of Can Assist, Friends of Pastoral Care and the Leeton Town Band have all received a slice of the funding pie thanks to the club.

Each year the organisation holds an open day where gardens from across the town and shire are opened up to the public for viewing.

This year's event coincided with the Leeton SunRice Festival and was held on Easter Monday, with many residents enjoying the extra day off to take in some of the gardens.

Garden club president Iris Herrmann said all three organisations were worthy.

"We donate to Can Assist and the Town Band every year," she said.

"They both help us out on the day, with the Town Band providing entertainment, which adds to everything.

"This year we decided to choose palliative care as the third one because they do such a great job as well.

"The founder of our group had cancer, so we always like to support Can Assist and the Town Band has been part of the entertainment for a few years now.

"We like to support those two every year, as well as choosing a third once that's different each time."
