LEETON remains undefeated after two rounds of the Milliken Shield competition with a strong victory over Griffith Blue at No. 2 Oval last Sunday.
Leeton won the toss and elected to bat, aiming to take advantage of a soggy outfield and hoping high winds would help dry the field out during the day. The decision looked to backfire early on when the home side lost two quick wickets and the Wolf Cubs were looking shaky at 2-4 with Ben McDowell (1) and Mathew Axtill back in the pavilion.
However, good partnerships between Harrison Rudd (14), Kyle Pete (24), Rhett McGregor (17) and an outstanding innings from Jye Doyle (36 retired) provided the platform for a competitive total.
Some lusty late hitting by Mohammed Ahmed (16no) and Reece Keech (10) pushed the final score out to 9-161 at the completion of 40 overs.
The home side went into the field with a good total to defend, but was coming up against a quality Griffith top order.
In the end, tight bowling and good pressure in the field resulted in Leeton dismissing the top order cheaply, highlighted by a run out to Reece and three catches to Ben.
Travis Collins again turned in good bowling figures of 2-13 along with Mohammed (2-11) and Harrison (1-6 off five overs).
Griffith Blue showed grit and batted out their full 40 overs, but fell short by 37 runs, finishing at 9-124.
