It has been about 25 years since Mr Cowdroy-Ling has cut his hair and he has decided to use the occasion to raise at least $10,000 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia after his brother was diagnosed with the disease.
Fund-raising efforts have resulted in almost $5000 being raised, with Mr Cowdroy-Ling to have all his hair cut on Saturday by hairdresser and friend Jenny Camm.
His two daughters - Amy-Lou and Kate - have been helping with the various fund-raisers along the way to get the kitty ticking over.
"As well as my brother I've also had friends with prostate cancer," Mr Cowdroy-Ling said.
"We all know someone who has had it, but I'm also doing the shave as an awareness thing.
"Men don't really like to go to the doctors for check-ups, so it's about encouraging that too."
Fund-raising will continue prior to and after the shave and for $20 interested residents can pay to cut off one of the pony tails that Mr Cowdroy-Ling's hair will be divided into.
The shave will be held in Jarrah Mall on Saturday at 11am.
