Mr Speer has written the script for the Broadway cabaret show Just Startin' Out and he recruited another former resident, Mr Beecher, to star alongside him.
Mr Speer describes the plot as being a "classic story" that follows two friends chasing their dream of making it big.
Both become famous, but as they do their friendship falls away and it's not until they are once more down and out do they realise the importance of their connection to each other.
The pair has been rehearsing together in Sydney, with both looking forward to hitting the Roxy Theatre stage.
"Nick and I worked out that we have rehearsed for a total of 30 hours," Mr Speer said.
"That's how long it has taken to get this show from the page to the stage.
"Of course there's been a lot of behind the scenes work as well with the help of a lot of Leeton (residents) too.
"We've been working like crazy to really challenge ourselves and make this show the best it can be.
"Our final rehearsal will be our one and only technical rehearsal on Saturday morning before the show.
"I think that pressure will create a very exciting energy for us on stage, as well as for the audience on the night."
Mr Speer said it had been fun joining up with Mr Beecher.
"We just picked up right where we left off," he said.
"It makes work easy when you're working with great people.
"I really think this show will be a real treat for audiences, especially back home. It's a very fitting show for the venue too.
"I do feel it is a little bit of a love song to the Roxy.
"I can't wait to see those lights go on and the audience roll in."
The audience can expect the unexpected during the show, according to Mr Beecher.
"There will be some great Broadway anthems, both new and old, playful moments, and clever humour that will keep the story and its themes alive throughout the performance," he said.
"It's been 10 years since (Jake and I have) really had any contact with each other, so it was interesting to see what our capabilities were when we started rehearsals.
"We were really impressed at each other's singing and acting, and we had the ability to bounce ideas off each other so we could improve even further."
