LEETON secured a seven-wicket win over Griffith in their Warren Smith Cup match at Mark Taylor Oval last Sunday.
After a strong bowling effort, the Cubs' top order was too good for their visiting opposition.
Griffith won the toss and batted on a pitch that had a bit in it, but played the same all day rewarding good bowling and responsible batting.
Leeton's opening bowlers dominated early. Danyan Evans went on to take 5-26 and along with Robbie Rimmer (3-15) accounted for the first five wickets.
At 5-25, Griffith was in trouble and appeared to be falling further into the mire when new batsmen Jack Favell was bowled off the first ball he faced. However, it was called a no ball.
Favell (16) and Nathan Richards (32) then dug in to help their side post a defendable score of 110.
At the change of innings, coach Cubs Glenn Saddler reminded the top order that the key to the day would be patience and they proceeded to put in a mature effort.
Although Tyh Evans (7) fell with the score on 11, opening partner Nathan Tang (22) and Andrew Burke (16) put on a 31-run stand for the second wicket to steady the ship.
Burke was dismissed with the score on 42 and Tang went on 65, but Todd Pattison (32no) and Mackenzie Saddler (20no) were more than capable replacements, sticking to the plan and keeping their wicket intact to pass the Griffith score three wickets down.
Favell, Ryan Greenaway and Jack Rowston were the wicket-takers for Griffith.
