YANCO Hotel learned a lesson from last week's loss as the Stags successfully prevented LSC Colts from chasing down their total of 195.
Having won the toss and elected to field, the Colts could not manage the desired breakthrough early as Yanco Hotel put on 55 for the first wicket.
Jaryd Day (2-21) provided some joy by first removing David Tiffin (12) and then Brandon Emerson (0) in the same over.
This brought Mitchell Hutchinson (27) to the crease alongside opener Mark Doyle with the pair pushing the score close to the 100 mark.
The introduction of Nathan Carn's spin produced three wickets for the Colts, including two for Carn (2-28) himself and a run out from his bowling.
This left Hotel at 5-122, but the dangerous Doyle combined with Jamo Booth (19) before the opener finally fell for a well-constructed 75 to Josh Carn (1-34).
Booth was dismissed by Mark Burns (1-39) with the score still on 162, but late hitting from Stags captain Dionisio Pantano (16) and young Angus Boulton (14) pushed the total out to a competitive 195.
Coming off a Creet Cup half-century, Mark Burns was removed first ball of the Colts innings as Matt Aliendi's delivery jagged back to remove his unguarded off stump.
In a pleasing sign for their captain, the Colts managed to recover as Matt Rhodes and Lachlan O'Callaghan put on 72 for the second wicket.
In eerily similar circumstances to last week, Yanco Hotel needed a breakthrough and Brandon Emerson stepped up on his return to bowling.
Emerson first removed Rhodes (26) and then Nathan Carn (17) as the game came back into balance after the drinks interval.
Day came and went for only one and Emerson continued his hot streak as O'Callaghan chopped on for a resilient 53 as he signed off on a productive 2014.
It proved to be Emerson's day with the ball as he secured his five-wicket haul (5-32) in addition to two catches. Aliendi picked up two late wickets to finish the match with 3-31.
Although the Stags couldn't make the final breakthrough, the Colts batted through their 40 overs, but fell 55 runs short of the target.
Both teams will look towards 2015 as a year of improvement with plenty of potential to upset some of the top teams in the A grade competition.
