Those using the Telstra carrier experienced minimal to no service for their mobile phones on Thursday, Friday and into Saturday.
The company was conducting scheduled works on the Leeton tower located in the centre of town.
However, Leeton resident John Chant said it wasn’t good enough.
“I have a business phone and a private phone and I wasn’t getting any service, no messages were coming through and I couldn’t make or receive calls,” Mr Chant said.
“I tried contacting Telstra and the first thing they told me to do was switch my phone off and then back on. When that didn’t work I sent an email and eventually had to ring them again.
“They told me there was work happening … I think it’s disgraceful that as customers we weren’t advised this was happening.
“This is technology people use every day and pay quite a bit of money for, so I believe notice should have been given. I know people with (other carriers) have received messages when work is being carried out, so why can’t Telstra do the same?”
Telstra addressed the incident when contacted by The Irrigator this week.
“Planned work to upgrade the local mobile base station was carried out last week,” a spokesman said.
“Information about these works was published on Telstra’s service status page, but the upgrade took longer than expected and was completed the following day.
“We apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused and assure them that we are continuing to investigate additional ways to inform them about planned works that may affect their mobile service.”
Residents also took to social media to express their anger following on from an incident where an illegal transponder disrupted service.
“You would think cutting the whole town off like that, Telstra would at least send us all a message explaining the towers were under repair in our area,” resident Madison White wrote on Facebook.
