It’s been 150 years since the Sisters of St Joseph’s order was formed by Saint Mary MacKillop and Father Julian Tenison Woods. To mark the event a special mass and celebration afterwards in Madonna Place was held.
Sister Janet Glass has been in Leeton for four years and was one of many on hand to celebrate the occasion at St Joseph’s Church.
“We’re rejoicing with the foundress and founder with much gratitude,” Sister Janet said. “It’s been 150 years and I know they’re smiling right now.
“Sister Mary is our inspiration for education in rural areas and country towns. Her emphasis was educating the poor and fighting injustice against children.”
