Murrumbidgee Irrigation alerted Leeton Shire Council on Wednesday to a potential structural issue on the middle span of this bridge as part of a recent site inspection.
Director of engineering & technical services Barry Heins said that as an immediate result of this issue, Council has implemented a speed restriction of 40km/h as Friday morning (May 27).
“We understand this may inconvenience freight users to some extent however this is a far better alternative than introducing load limits,” he said.
Murrumbidgee Irrigation will conducting fortnightly monitoring and surveying of the site for safety purposes to establish the extent of the issue and to identify any actions that may be required.
