Staff and students came wearing the traditional Italian colours of green, white and red, but there was also a serious side to the day.
Principal MaryJane Simms said the occasion was also used to celebrate the school’s Italian language program.
“This is the second year the Italian language has been taught at St Joseph’s, which has a rich Italian heritage,” she said.
“Ms Quarisa-Tynan makes the Italian program so engaging and fun. It is is amazing to see the children first learn to understand and then to become fluent in Italian.”
The day also consisted of a feast of spaghetti bolognese and gelato, singing songs, the telling of Italian jokes and a soccer match.
