Many residents gathered on Sunday to be part of a Running for Others event, this time in aid of Blake Heath.
Blake is a young resident who has been diagnosed with enterovirus that left him with acute flaccid paralysis.
He has been undergoing intensive rehab to try and gain as much mobility and independence as possible.
Blake’s family have been told he will leave hospital in a wheelchair and some type of permanent disability.
He still does not have the ability to perform everyday activities such as walking, bathing, going to the toilet, dressing and the ability to play with his friends and family. Trips back and forth to Sydney will also become a reality for his family.
With medical expenses pilling up for his family, the Leeton Running for Others group hosted their event in order to raise some much-needed funds.
Close to $2240 was raised by the community as a result.
Residents that took part either walked or ran different parts of the town circuit in what was chilly conditions. The money will be used by the family for medical expenses and home modification.
A A ‘Go Fund Me’ page has also been set up for Blake and it can be found at www.gofundme.com/23tryght.
