Why did you decide to nominate as councillor? As a second generation Italian migrant, my family history in Leeton stems back to 1950. After university and experiencing the city lifestyle for 10 years I was proud to return to a vibrant and energetic community. Since my return, I have been involved in business and community organisations as a volunteer in order to reconnect with the community. When the opportunity arrived to nominate for Council, it came as a natural extension of my involvement as a volunteer with community organisations. I decided to put myself forward to support Leeton by contributing, adding value and making a difference here where I live and work.
What makes a good councillor? A councillor is a representative of the people of the shire and must always be aware that decisions are made with a genuine regard for the well-being of the community. From an operational perspective a councillor should have a holistic approach and outlook on issues involving the community and its residents. They need to be able to identify opportunities and provide evidence to justify implementing these initiatives. From a practical perspective a good councillor should be involved in a community and council activities and show an interest in Leeton's current affairs in a professional and respectful manner.
What attributes do you bring to the role? Strong family values and an old fashioned work ethic. I have extensive experience collaborating and working with stakeholders at all levels, a diverse working environment and decision making skills through managerial roles.
What do you hope to achieve if elected To utilize my ‘can-do’ attitude, enthusiasm and experience to build on Leeton's "Fit for the Future" strategic plan that provides Leeton with a strong identity.
What do you see as the greatest issues facing Leeton shire? Establishing a solid identity. Leeton is fortunate to have so many amazing attributes, all successful in their own right. I see Leeton as an attractive location for innovative ideas to attract industry investment, new residents, businesses and visitors. This would be more attainable through a clear identity and communication strategy.
Why should people vote for you in this election? I have a passion to make a difference to my home. Through my support as a volunteer, I have demonstrated a genuine interest in Leeton's future. If selected I will immediately get to work, review the positive efforts and build on those who have come before me. I will work with the other councillors to move our council forward so it will continue to live the "Fit for the Future" strategy.
Do you have anything you like to add? It will be a privilege to represent the Leeton community. A councillor is a leader, I have leadership qualities which will allow me to identify opportunities that will see Leeton grow.
