It wasn’t pre-game spirit or fan rivalry that spurred their decision to wear their jerseys, instead it was the important topic of organ donation and “Jersey Day”.
Now in its second year Jersey Day was inspired by Nathan Gremmo, who died in 2015 at the age of 15. In honour of their son’s generous personality, Nathan’s family agreed on Nathan becoming an organ donor and gave the gift of life.
“After doing some research and realising the importance of Jersey Day, we got on board ad felt it was appropriate to encourage the conversation about becoming an organ donor,” Christine Wallace, said.
Mrs Wallace, who is a registered nurse at the practice, said it was important for her to do her part and printed paper forms for anyone considering becoming an organ donor.
“There was a diverse and wide range of people taking forms and electing to become an organ donor, it was really well received,” Mrs Wallace said.
“It was good to see people get on board and consider organ donation.”
After a positive response by patients and staff, Mrs Wallace is looking forward to making Jersey Day an annual event at the medical centre to encourage more “conversation about organ donation”.
