Chill and Grill is Leeton’s biggest event as part of this year’s Taste Riverina Festival and will offer up the best tasting produce in the shire, competitions, prizes and the chance to see a celebrity chef put his skills to use.
Co-organiser Matt Gatt said the idea was to promote to residents what food is grown in the region and how they can use it.
“We want everyone to come out, try some of the tasty locally-grown produce, bring a blanket and have a picnic with their families,” he said. “At the same time as enjoying lunch they can take in the music, the cooking demonstrations and much more.
“There’ll be something different happening throughout the event and it will hopefully appeal to a wide audience.” Activities for children, a bar for adults, entertainment and more will all feature.
Adding to the list of attractions will be the regular stallholders from the Leeton Farmers Markets. Both Mr Gatt and Leeton Shire Council’s economic, tourism and events manager Nicola James are on the Taste Riverina Festival committee.
Mrs James was hopeful the event would be well attended by residents, their families and visitors alike.
“Hopefully we get some really good exposure from it,” she said.
“Paul West has quite a good digital following, so it would be good to capitalise on that. We want people to come out and have fun.” Chill and Grill will be held in Mountford Park on Saturday from 11am to 2pm.
