Kids of all ages, bringing their grown-ups and took the firefighters up on the invitation to come down and have a peek and even try on a helmet or two.
Three trucks of various configurations were on display and open to anyone interested in climbing aboard and taking them by the wheel.
To the side, the firefighters had set up a hose and were giving children a go at knocking down imaginary fires and saving the town from trouble.
For the firefighters, it was the opportunity to engage the community for a fun morning and open the discussion of fire safety.
“It’s a chance to let members of the community come up and see what we do and how broad the instances are that we have to cover,” said deputy Kirk Walker.
“It’s really good to get involved with the community.”
Sparking the conversation of fire safety gave the firefighters the opportunity to discuss how important it is to have a fire plan at home and at work, and making sure batteries are replaced in smoke detectors regularly.
The cooking fire demonstration shows clearly why water is not to be used to fight a cooking fire.
Less than 100ml of is added to a pot of burning cooking oil which instantly converts to steam and expands in volume that throws the burning oil into the air.
The firefighters hope the example will show how to handle a cooking fire in the home safely.
