This call was answered last year by the state government and Leeton Shire Council when the Wamoon sewerage scheme project was given the tick of approval.
Thanks to council being successful in gaining grant funding from the state government’s “restart NSW”, the initiative has now started to get underway.
Council’s manager for water and waste water Greg Richards said the initial planning for the project had begun.
The survey and design for the draft reticulation layout, including the household connections, has also been completed.
“The draft design comprises of gravity sewer lines within the township area and a single pump station located adjacent to the Wamoon Park,” Mr Richards said. “This design allows us the flexibility to consider a number of sewerage treatment options without holding up the construction of the system within the village of Wamoon.”
An information letter has been sent to all residents in Wamoon to update them on what survey and design works are underway and to explain the increased presence of project personnel in the Wamoon village area. A public meeting for all Wamoon residents will also soon be held in at Wamoon Public School at a date to be determined.
Mayor Paul Maytom added the design also allowed for council to include a public toilet block that is incorporated into the pump station design at no additional cost in Wamoon Park.
This decision came after various calls from the community to do so. The project is currently on track to be completed by mid-2018.
