United will travel to Wagga on Sunday where they will take on Tolland with hopes of getting back to their winning ways.
Last weekend Leeton and Wagga United finished their match with scores locked.
That is something assistant coach Joe Trifogli would like to see change come Sunday afternoon’s final siren.
“We’ve got a target on our backs now … we’re the new guys to competition, we’re doing well and everyone wants to beat us,” he said.
“That’s certainly not a bad thing.
“We do welcome it.”
Following last weekend’s draw, Trifogli said the team did feel as though it were a loss.
At Tuesday night’s training session, the match was spoken about, and it was agreed by players and the coaching staff that Leeton had some improving to do.
“I don’t think we played bad, we just didn’t finish the game off,” Trifogli said.
“(Coach) Mick (Doolin) and I have both put our hands up to say there is probably something we should have done on the day as well.
“We need to work at finishing off games completely and keeping our intensity up.”
Leeton United are currently second on the Football Wagga competition’s ladder, two points behind Lake Albert.
There is a two-goal difference between the two sides, which will be an important factor come the end of the regular season.
This weekend’s opponent in Tolland are fourth.
“It’s definitely going to be a challenge,” Trifogli said.
“We’ve played them once, so they know how we play and we know how they play.
“Myself and Mick are hopeful of winning.
“We just need to stay focused on what needs to be done.”
Nick Trifogli will be available for selection this week, but the final team will be decided at training on Thursday night.
Leeton hasn’t travelled to Wagga for some weeks thanks to the bye and the previous match before that was played at Young.
“It will be good to get back there again,” Trifogli said.
“I’d say it will be a very competitive match. Hopefully some of our supporters come across as well.”
