Leeton Public School’s Blake McDonald and Logan Mahalm recently represented with the Riverina side at the PSSA rugby league state championships at Salamander Bay.
The pair stood out across the competition, with their sportsmanship also commended.
While Riverina finished 10th at the end of the competition, Blake said it was still a good experience.
“We matched it with Sydney East … they only beat us by a try, which was pretty good,” he said.
“It was a pretty tough competition, but good fun.
“I had fun making new friends in our team and with the opposition too.”
The boys even braved a swim in the ocean where they were joined by a pod of dolphins.
At a local level, Logan and Blake both play for the Leeton Raiders.
Logan prefers the positions of prop, lock or second row, while Blake favours hooker and half.
Both are dreaming of one day playing in the NRL.
“That would be pretty cool … you never know,” Logan said.
“Playing at state was a good experience for us.
“You got to work on your skills at a new level.”
The year six students listed making the Riverina team as one of their biggest sporting achievements to date.
