Snapchat is a mobile messaging application used to share photos, videos, text, and drawings.
It's free to download the app and to send messages using it.
It has become hugely popular in a short space of time, especially with young people, with The Irrigator hoping to tap into that market.
The Irrigator plans to use the app in a variety of ways, according to editor Ben Jones.
“Snapchat will be used to give our readers another avenue of viewing our content online,” he said.
“Thanks to the latest update of the app, we can now share links to our stories and photo galleries on Snapchat.
“We also hope to use the app to provide a unique insight into life at The Irrigator and offer a behind-the-scenes glimpse at some of the events we attend in the shire.”
Residents who add The Irrigator on Snapchat will be able to interact with staff by sending their own photos, videos or even news tips to the app.
Snapchat’s popularity continues to grow in Australia, with an estimated four million people using the app on a daily basis.
