At just 14, Grace has been chosen to represent in the NSW under 15s Combined High Schools netball team.
After travelling to Sydney to take part in the tryouts, Grace still didn’t expect to be chosen.
“Me and another girl from Griffith went and we were just hoping to make the possible and probable teams,” Grace said.
“From there that’s where they choose the eventual team, but that’s all we were hoping for, so when I found out I had made the side, I was so excited.
“I ran down the stairs and was jumping around and I tripped over.
“I was so excited.”
Grace is an ideal netball player and can take positions both as a shooter or defence player.
During the try outs, she was mainly used as a goal keeper, but she said it depended what team she was playing with as to where she preferred to be.
Grace is around six foot tall, so her height and agility is also an advantage.
She plays for the Leeton-Whitton Crows A reserve team and was part of the winning under 14s Leeton representative netball side that won their division at this year’s State Age championships.
“I started off playing soccer,” Grace said.
“My mum was actually the one that convinced me to start playing netball and I’m glad she did because I love it. It’s a really fun sport to play. I like the aggression of it.”
As part of the NSW team, Grace will be involved in the Tri Cup series where an All Schools team is chosen to play in the Pacific Games in Adelaide.
“That's my goal,” she said. “It would be awesome to be selected for that.” Grace would also like to one day play the sport professionally.
