Its only fitting he was afforded a state funeral to honour him for his quiet unassuming constant giving of service not only to our nation but also further afield.
He was one of the finest high court judges our nation was privileged to have had and known.
His dealings from the bench as well as in his private life were always above reproach, honest, decent and fair but also without fear or favour.
For Sir Ninian a spade was a spade, a no nonsense man but a man who exercised a deep passion for upholding Christian values, the basis of his decisions a rare thing these days.
He has left a legacy of food for thought for all who follow in his footsteps, in our law courts today.
He will go down in history as one of Australia's finest examples of what it takes to uphold the principles or our constitutional laws by honouring their statutes in totality.
May his example live on.
Yvonne Rance, Griffith.
Spring poetry
Aachoo!
Spring, a time of sneezes, coughs and sniffles for everyone who unfortunately suffers from hay fever or
associated allergies.
The days can be very unsettled with warm temperatures, sudden storms then cool changes.
Spring is also the season when mother nature begins to wake after the long, cold days of winter and she
begins to paint the landscape with a rainbow.
The gardens are awash with an amazing array of colours as all the flowers turn their faces to the warm
sun.
The trees are once again dressed in their green finery casting shadows to protect us from the upcoming
summer sun and heat.
Everyone has a "spring" in their step as the warmer weather encourages us to get out in our gardens,
play sport and generally enjoy these pleasant months.
Before long, the temperature will increase as summer begins to approach and spring will be left behind.
Wendy Sweeny.
