The town's hospital has been operating without the ability to deliver babies for more than 18 months.
In September, a small group of residents calling themselves the concerned citizens of the MIA banded together, to organise the petition and fight for the return of services.
The group have now put together a public notice, which they sent into The Irrigator, which outlines their frustration with the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) – the regional body which administers health policy and programs.
“It has become increasingly evident that there is urgent concern in the community regarding the alleged unpreparedness, unwillingness or inability of the Murrumbidgee Local Health District to satisfactorily provide for the needs of our community, at every age level,” the notice read.
“The current petition… attracting 4000 signatures, revealed alarming scenarios and repeated instances of no "doctor on call" being rostered on public holidays, which is a clear breach of the Service Agreement between the Secretary of N.S.W. Health and MLHD”.
The concerned citizens say they do not have faith in the senior health bureaucrats.
“It is even more disturbing to find, on abundant witness, that there is an underlying culture of unprofessional behaviour that is sowing mistrust through our hospital system, causing undue stress for our wonderful nurses and ambulance officers”.
