In the end there could only be one winner of The Irrigator’s poll which asked residents to choose who makes the pizza with Benvenuti Café Restaurant coming out on top.
It was a close call for “Benvos” who received 209 votes to come out on top, but there were closely followed by Mick’s Pizza on 190.
The Italian restaurant, owned by Sam Alfonso and Bruno Catanzariti, has an extensive pizza menu.
Mr Alfonso believes the reason their pizzas are popular is family secrets which have been handed down over the years.
“There’s a lot of years experience in making these pizzas,” he said.
“The restaurant used to be owned by my sister and brother-in-law and my brother-in-law’s family have been in this industry for 50 or 60 years. They’ve passed on a lot of their secrets to us.”
There are many places in Leeton to grab a pizza and each have their own twists to what goes into making one so delicious.
During the course of The Irrigator’s online poll one former restaurant was mentioned numerous times in Pancake and Pizza.
Maybe residents commented on just how much they used to enjoy their pizzas for dinner or even on the way home from their favourite hotel late at night.
For Benvenuti Café Restaurant their style of pizza was what got them across the line.
Mr Alfonso, a tiler-turned-restaurateur, doesn’t mind the competition in town as he felt it pushed everyone to strive to produce quality food for their customers.
He would only reveal two ways to make sure pizza is delicious.
“The secret in making a good pizza I believe is in the dough and the sauce,” Mr Alfonso said.
“I’ve got to give a shout out to Zulfi who makes all of our pizzas … he’s pretty excited by all of this and he does a great job.”
The restaurant has gourmet and traditional pizzas, meaning there’s plenty of options to select.
“I think people enjoy having the choice … we work hard to make something people like,” Mr Alfonso said.
“I enjoy making my own … we want to start making a few different pizzas as well for everyone to enjoy.”
