In the second occurrence in the same amount of weeks, a mother was alerted by a noise to find a man standing in her laundry late in the night on Friday.
The woman was at their Yambil Street home with her family when she got up to lock the doors. She had gone to the rear door of the house to lock it.
A short time later she saw a male standing just inside the house, screamed and called the police.
Upon investigation, police determined the door wasn’t of the best quality, and could be easily pushed open.
It is believed the male ran away upon being discovered.
He is described as being Islander in appearance, standing around 170cm tall, bald or short hair with a solid build, wearing a blue and white jersey.
Chief Inspector John Wadsworth said thieves are opportunistic, especially at this time of year with heat tempting people to leave doors and windows open.
“I would say these incidents are quite usual,” he said.
“Because it is extremely hot, residents tend to leave windows open, and others see an opportunity. Criminals work around the clock and will take advantage of anything they see.”
“There is nothing to indicate they know people are at home, it appears opportunistic, so I encourage everyone to remain vigilant, and to make sure you lock doors and security screens.”
