Charlie captained the under 12s NSW state team at the nationals carnival in Barooga in January, an experience she said only increased her appetite for the game.
Having been selected in the Riverina team, Charlie then progressed to the state team and was eventual chosen to captain the side.
“It was a really big honour,” she said.
“I’ve been captain of teams before, but it can be hard. It’s pretty nerve-wracking sometimes.
“You really have to think about what your doing and know what everyone’s strengths are. It was a good experience. You get to know everyone a bit better.”
Charlie’s team won three matches and lost two, placing fifth overall during the eight-day event.
“The standard was pretty even among all the teams, but some of the players are very, very good,” the young star said.
“Some of them from the city have their own coaches and personal trainers, so to match it with them was pretty good.”
Each match was 35 overs and played in warm weather, but Charlie was happy with her overall performance.
“I think I went pretty well,” the all-rounder said. “I had the highest average in all of Australia with my batting. I did a bit of bowling too.”
Charlie hopes to one day play in the women’s Big Bash League, as well as the Australian team.

“That’s my ultimate dream,” she said.
“I think from this carnival it really helped me to step up to the next level. It helped with my skills.” With women’s cricket becoming more popular, Charlie was hopeful more girls in town would take up the sport.
“It’s getting so much bigger … when I first started playing (in Leeton), I was the only girl,” she said.
“Now there’s a few more coming through in the younger ages and cricket is going through the roof.”
Charlie started high school this week and was hopeful of continuing to progress through the ranks of the sport as she gets older.
She thanked her family, friends, teachers and those who helped her get to the national carnival.
