After almost 40 years in town, Big W has announced it will close its doors.
The final day of trading is scheduled for April 15, with a loss of 85 jobs.
A spokeswoman for the company confirmed they were meeting with staff to explore options, including the option of redundancy for permanent team members and relocation to other stores and Woolworths brands.
“Our store team members remain our priority,” they said.
“We are meeting with each team member to discuss their preference across a range of possible post-closure options.”
Outplacement and onsite training will also be on offer to current team members to assist with future job searches.
She said the site’s lease was approaching the end of it’s term, but an agreement could not be reached with the landlord.
“We entered into negotiations with the landlord, however we did not reach an agreement and the lease on this site was offered to another business,” they said.
“The local community in Griffith have been valued and loyal customers since 1978 and the BIG W team have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the residents’ daily lives.”
