WHEN one thinks of a car club the image which may come to mind could be of a group of car-loving rev heads.

However, while that is typically not the case, one Leeton car club is working to change that image.
Last year the MIA Cruisers Inc car club was formed and it’s for all lovers of motor vehicles whether they be male or female, and families are welcome.
Club public officer John Napier said the idea of starting a new classic vehicle club came about early last year.
“Five of us met causally to discuss forming a club offering rego for both cars and bikes in a relaxed, laid back and family-friendly environment,” he said.
After that the ideas and constitution for the organisation started to flow and it was formally “open for business” in April last year.
Now, the club has continued to grow and flourish, with a good mix of both men and women, ageing from 17 years-old to those in their 60s.
Forty-seven people have signed up as members, with the aim of the club to not be in competition with any others, but rather complement them.
“Our goal is to aim for a younger demographic, encouraging younger people to join us in the never-ending struggle of saving these old beauties,” Mr Napier said.
“We do this by offering a family-friendly environment, a minimalist six meetings per year.
“In fact we encourage members to bring along their partners as every effort will be made to make not only our bi-monthly meetings laid back and relaxed, but something for everyone on our social runs/outings.
“Another area we feel passionate about is fundraising for our small community, so with a small inclusion in our constitution we aim to help when we can.”
Basically, if you own something that has wheels, that’s all you need to be involved.
The club’s styles of registrations which are offered by the MIA Cruisers is one of its primary differences.
“We are trying to fill what we feel is a deficit in our area,” Mr Napier said.
“We are not only participating in the historic vehicle scheme, but offering the new classic vehicle scheme style of registration.

“Also, we will try to accommodate all interests and makes, so not just cars, but classic motorcycles, trucks and buses.
“If it’s got wheels and moves either people or or goods you are welcome.
“We currently have 21 vehicles registered with us, including both motorcycles and cars, with the majority from the 1960s and 70s.”
The next meeting of the club will be held on February 14 at the L&D Bowling Club from 7.30pm, but members and those looking to join can ahead along earlier for a “good old fashioned chin wag” about how they can sign up.
