For those young people in Leeton shire, a shoulder to lean on is closer than one might think.
headspace in Griffith is launching a new outreach service to the Leeton community.
The organisation started the initiative in February and it involves having a clinician travelling to town to provide services such as one-on-one counselling and school wellbeing support to young people aged from 12 to 25.
According to headspace, the service has been designed to make it easy for a young person and their family to access the help they need for problems affecting their mental health and wellbeing.
headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing early intervention mental health services, along with assistance in promoting young peoples’ wellbeing.
headspace Griffith centre manager Sharron Dean said young people in Leeton were desperately in-need for access to youth friendly mental health services.
“We know some people accessing our services have to travel a long way to get support and we want to be able to change that by taking the support to them,” Ms Dean said.
“Having our clinician embedded in the Leeton community will provide young people going through a tough time face-to-face support regarding their mental health and wellbeing to get them back on track.”
To get a referral for headspace Griffith interested residents can call the centre on 6962 3277 between 11am and 7pm on Monday and 9am to 5pm on Tuesday to Friday.
Appointments to see the headspace clinician in Leeton are available between 10am and 2:30pm every Tuesday on a fortnightly basis.
The next visit will be on March 13.
